Join UPMC at the March of Dimes WalkAmerica Every year, half a million babies in the United States are born prematurely. Premature birth is the leading cause of newborn death and many lifelong disabilities. You can help the March of Dimes prevent premature births by joining Team UPMC on Sunday, April 30, at 9 a.m. in Point State Park for the March of Dimes WalkAmerica. UPMC Health Plan is a major sponsor of WalkAmerica. Diane Holder, president, UPMC Health Plan, is co-chair of the event. Registration fees for this walk help fund the mission of the March of Dimes to improve the health of babies by preventing birth defects and premature birth. The 3.1-mile course winds along the North Shore and takes walkers through Pittsburgh’s cultural district. After finishing the walk, walkers will be treated to lunch, courtesy of the March of Dimes. Join a UPMC team Several UPMC business units are forming teams and selecting team captains. Watch Inside Extra! for more information about joining a team on your campus. You also can register for UPMC’s team online at www.walkamerica.com. Click on Register Now, select Existing Company Team, and type in UPMC to select a UPMC team. All walkers will receive a Team UPMC T-shirt and will meet at a central location on the day of the walk. Watch the next issue of Extra! for more information. Return to list of stories in this issue
