Get ready to change your password

Beginning on Wednesday, July 18, UPMC’s Information Services Division will introduce complex passwords for all UPMC network accounts (also referred to as NT ID). Within 30 days, all staff members with a UPMC network account will be prompted to change their passwords to meet the new complex password requirements.

A complex password must be at least seven characters long and contain characters from three of the following four categories: capital letters (A through Z); lowercase letters (a through z); numbers (0 through 9); and symbols (!, $, #, %, @).

The move to complex passwords is designed to increase the security of information — for patients, employees, and the organization — stored on UPMC’s network. For more information, see the June 29 issue of Extra! or visit the ISD Help Desk site.
