February 20, 2009 UPMC News RoundupChildren’s Hospital of Pittsburgh of UPMC: A special preview with tours for UPMC employees and their families will be held Saturday, April 4, from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Magee-Womens Hospital of UPMC: Dr. Joseph Sanflippo, director of the Division of Reproductive Endocrinology and Infertility, was quoted in the Feb. 13 issue of the Pittsburgh Tribune-Review. UPMC Bedford Memorial: As part of their “Child of Dreams” program, prison guards from Smithfield State Correctional Prison made a donation of DVD players, tapes, and many toys for children who are patients or visitors at the hospital. UPMC Braddock: This quarter’s Above and Beyond award winner is Susan Shaner, Laboratory, who is recognized for her outstanding performance, diligence, and care. UPMC Horizon: A congestive heart failure clinic will open at UPMC Horizon’s Shenango Valley campus this month. UPMC Insurance Services Division: Diane P. Holder, executive vice president of UPMC’s Insurance Services Division, was named by Governor Edward Rendell as a winner of the 2008 Best 50 Women in Business Award. UPMC McKeesport: The Cardiovascular Laboratory at UPMC McKeesport is offering free stroke screening for employees and the community. Call 412-664-2291 to schedule an appointment. UPMC Mercy: Sister Diane Matje, RSM, RN, MSN, APN, Palliative Care Program director at UPMC Mercy, has been elected president of the Southwest Pennsylvania Chapter of the Hospice and Palliative Care Nurses Association. UPMC Montefiore: On Wednesday, Feb. 25, Catholic and Protestant worship services will be held in honor of Ash Wednesday. UPMC Passavant: On Jan. 24, Kian S. Kooros, MD, passed away. Dr. Kooros joined the staff of then Passavant Hospital in 1971 and was a member of the UPMC Passavant Cardiology Department, the UPMC Passavant board of trustees, and the Passavant Hospital Foundation board of trustees. UPMC Presbyterian: A new infection control bathing initiative that institutes the use of antibacterial disposable washcloths in place of some of the reusable washcloths has gone live at UPMC Presbyterian, UPMC Montefiore, and UPMC Shadyside. UPMC St. Margaret: Five new Above and Beyond award winners at UPMC St. Margaret were announced: Kim Cuneo, Lawrenceville Family Health Center; Marva Flenory, Cardiology; Theresa Mavrinac, Radiology; Jim Mercuri, Social Work; and Lawrence Wiest, Transportation. UPMC Shadyside: New parking pay stations, intended to help eliminate lines waiting to leave the garage, will be placed in the lobbies of the garages and be ready for use by the end of February. UPMC South Side: To help facilitate the transition of pharmacy services for patients to UPMC Mercy, Pharmacy will be redeploying personnel from the UPMC South Side location, adding to the staff at the UPMC Mercy campus. Western Psychiatric Institute and Clinic of UPMC: A free program entitled, “The Challenges, Benefits, and Health Effects of Family Caregiving,” will be held Wednesday, March 4, from 12:15 to 1:15 p.m. at the Carnegie Library, 612 Smithfield St. |
