Journey to Management guides new managers

This month, Human Resources will launch an additional orientation program for all new managers. Journey to Management is a one-day program aimed at providing the tools and resources every new manager at UPMC needs to be successful.

This program is meant to increase organization and industry awareness, ease the transition into UPMC leadership, and excite new managers about their new roles.

“Our goal is to provide these individuals with the ideal orientation experience to get them the right tools quickly, and to inspire and empower them as they start their journey,” says Sheliah Heckla, manager, Human Resources.  Executive interactions, management style assessment, and panel discussions are also part of the program. Ms. Heckla hopes that the new program will engage new managers, and will help set expectations of what it means to be a UPMC manager.

“This program will not only provide newly hired or newly promoted managers with an overview of leadership development at UPMC, but it will also provide the opportunity for managers to network with current UPMC leaders  and with each other,” says Ms. Heckla.
