Have you met Emmi®?

Emmi is a Web-based patient education tool that is easy to use, even for those who are not used to working with computers. Emmi programs use ordinary words in a friendly, conversational voice along with clear, simple diagrams to educate patients about surgical procedures, pre- and post-surgical care, and chronic conditions. The user-friendly program allows patients to go back over any part of the program, ask questions, and view the program alone or with family and friends, as often as they like.

UPMC has purchased the Emmi programs for use by all of its physicians at no cost to the practice or patient. UPMC Risk Management has reviewed the content of the Emmi programs and believes that Emmi will help UPMC effectively manage patients’ expectations, reduce procedure cancellations, and improve patients’ overall experiences.

Emmi programs supplement the informed consent process. In addition, the Emmi programs provide documentation of each patient’s use by keeping a record of the patient’s answers to review questions within the programs and any questions the patient may have raised.

Posters and tent cards promoting Emmi programs are now available through ePro and Workflow One. The inventory numbers are:

UPMC.0405 Emmi Mother and Child Poster 11 X 17 Laminated
UPMC.0406 Emmi Young Couple Poster 11 X 17 Laminated
UPMC.0407 Emmi Older Couple Poster 11 X 17 Laminated
UPMC.0408 Emmi Tent Card

A “prescription pad” encouraging pre-surgery patients to view the Emmi program about anesthesia may be ordered on a Printing and Duplicating Services Form, using Form Number 10451-821778-0708.
