Save money with UPMC’s Advantage Network

If you enrolled in the Advantage HMO or Advantage PPO medical option for 2009, you can save on out-of-pocket expenses and get the best value for the plan you selected by using the UPMC Advantage Network of providers.

Unsure whether your doctor or facility is in the UPMC Advantage Network? Check out the Provider Search found by logging in to My HUB, clicking on the Human Resources tab, selecting MyHealth/MyFlex Advantage, then clicking on the My Benefits tab.

What are the benefits of using the Advantage Network?

First, you have access to some of the best medical care in the country. The UPMC Advantage Network is made up of some of the best hospitals in the region — a fact supported by U.S. News & World Report’s listing of UPMC in its prestigious Honor Roll for delivering exceptional patient care, as well as its outstanding reputation among board-certified physicians nationwide.

Second, by providing you with the ability to obtain services through UPMC hospitals, physicians, diagnostic centers, rehabilitation centers, home health care, and durable medical equipment providers, the UPMC Advantage Network also reduces your out-of-pocket deductible and coinsurance expenses.

How do I get the highest level of coverage?

In order to receive the highest level of coverage, participants must use UPMC hospitals and affiliated facilities. While you may access other network hospitals and facilities, you will pay more.*

Can the Advantage Network really help me save money?

Let’s compare Denise and Rachel and see how Rachel saved on out-of-pocket expenses when they both had the same surgery.

Both Denise and Rachel elected the UPMC Advantage HMO for 2009, and both need to have gall bladder surgery in the next several months. They both completed their MyHealth requirements and received their $250 deductible credit for 2009.

Rachel uses the UPMC Advantage Network for all her pre-surgical labwork and has her gall bladder surgery at a UPMC hospital. She does not incur any out-of-pocket costs. Denise used a non-UPMC hospital to have the same surgery, but incurs a $500 deductible and 30 percent coinsurance on the remaining charges for using “Other UPMC Health Plan Facilities” instead of a UPMC hospital.

*Note: There is one copay structure for all UPMC Health Plan network physicians.
