Which option works for you?

This week, we continue to look at some fictional UPMC employees and how they decided which medical option was the best choice for them for 2010. These scenarios are designed to help you better understand the different considerations in determining which medical option may be best for you and your family. All of the profiles are based on estimates and could change depending upon the difference between actual and projected experience. The profiles also assume the services are provided within the Advantage network and the individuals have met their MyHealth deductible requirements for 2010.

The employee considerations in choosing the right medical option included:

  • medical services they have used in the past
  • medical services that are anticipated in 2010
  • the per-pay cost for each option
  • the potential out-of-pocket expenses for copayments and coinsurance under each plan option
  • each individual’s comfort level with unanticipated out-of-pocket cost differences between the options
