Beacon Hospital welcomes new CFO

As part of its mission to bring the most advanced health care to patients worldwide, UPMC partnered with the Beacon Medical Group (BMG) to operate Beacon Hospital in Dublin, Ireland. Beacon Hospital is delighted to welcome Brian Keane as its new chief financial officer. Mr. Keane brings with him a wealth of experience from both within and outside the health care industry.

Mr. Keane completed a bachelor’s degree in commerce at University College Dublin and qualified as a chartered accountant while working for KPMG. His first position afterward was as a chartered accountant with the McConnell Group, the largest advertising and marketing agency in Ireland. Mr. Keane’s interest in health care developed while he was working for the Haughton Institute, an independent corporate body owned by three members: Trinity College, St. James Hospital, and the Adelaide and Meath Hospital Dublin, incorporating the National Children’s Hospital at Tallaght, Dublin. From there, Mr. Keane stayed in chief financial roles within health care, working in the Rotunda Hospital in Dublin, one of Ireland’s largest maternity hospitals, and most recently as chief financial officer in the private Hermitage Medical Clinic in Dublin.

“The principal reason for my joining Beacon Hospital was the involvement of UPMC,” says Mr. Keane. “Even though I had been working for another private hospital in Ireland at the time, I was acutely aware of the excellent reputation and worldwide standing that UPMC has. I have been able to witness the enormous amount of resources and expertise that UPMC brings to the local operation here in Ireland. Each senior member of staff has the ability to draw on a vast array of clinical, financial, and operational intellect from their peers within the UPMC environment.”

Addressing the importance of the role of UPMC in European Union operations, Mr. Keane says, “Here in Ireland, as UPMC further develops its oncology ventures, coupled with the organic growth of Beacon Hospital itself, this can only further enhance the UPMC international brand. From what I have seen so far, this association will bring a ‘best of breed’ approach to the provision of health care in Beacon Hospital, which will differentiate us from our competitors and peers in the Irish marketplace.”
